What is BCA-BT Testing?

BCA testing refers to the Bergen County Academies Entrance Exam, which is a crucial assessment for 8th-grade students seeking enrollment in the Bergen County Academies.

Bergen County Academies are tuition-free public magnet high schools with seven academic and professional divisions for Bergen County residents. This highly competitive admission process only admits around 280 students annually out of 1,600 applicants, with an admissions rate of approximately 15%. The application process includes recommendation letters, exams, and interviews.

English Test

In 45 minutes, students must read a passage and craft an essay based on a given prompt. The evaluation revolves around comprehension, insight, organization, support, as well as grammar and spelling.

To score well on the English portion, students must be able to:

Demonstrate understanding of the material
Establish a clear thesis
Ensure proper paragraph structure and logical sequencing
Reinforce a thesis with pertinent facts from the passage
Craft a clear and mature writing voice
Write with correct grammar and spelling usage

Math Test

The mathematics assessment includes 40 multiple-choice questions and students are allotted 60 minutes to complete it. The questions cover fundamental math skills and word problems, with the initial twenty questions generally being more straightforward compared to the latter twenty.

Students who have studied algebra and geometry during their middle school years usually perform well on the math entrance test.
